As you read my blog, you will discover a little bit of who I am, touch on what my passions are, allude to sports I’m involved in, remark on my family and inform you of the adventure I am about to take.
To start, I was born in Vail, Colorado. I’ve lived my entire seventeen years of life in the valley. I attended Avon Elementary. Spanish is my native tongue. Kindergarten was rocky for me, since everyone in class was fluent in English. I felt like a complete outcast. I wasn’t sure how I was gonna learn a whole new language because my parents hardly understood it. However, I learned to speak English, not perfectly but, I learned to say the necessary when I had to ask Ms. Glesenkamp if I could use the restroom. I finished elementary school and proceeded to Berry Creek Middle. As many have experienced, middle school was intimidating. I went from being the oldest to being the youngest class. I researched, “What do many experience in middle school?” so I can talk about points and things I’ve gone through,. I’m amazed with the results because it is so relatable. In my search, I came across, “They care more about opinions of their peers than anything else.” I was way to concerned about what others thought about me, that I wasn’t happy with who I was. Three years of nonsense went by, and I’m currently a junior at Battle Mountain. I’ve become very independent. Before my junior year, I would depend on socializing and popularity, trying to fit in. Presently, I’ve given a full twist to my expectations, living and priorities.
In April, I have a service trip to Nicaragua with Children's Global Alliance. We will be teaching children with disabilities. I’ll have the honor to assist teachers in their classroom, support the students and conduct home visits with the school’s physical therapist. I want to have an impact on the world. I feel that by going to a school for children with disabilities, I will be able to make a big impact in someone’s world. I want to be able to show these kids that no matter the disability they have, they’re still human. They have the right to be respected and they have the right to feel loved. I want to be there to assure them their worth and build a connection. At this instant, my passion has always been to help people. I feel like I was meant to serve others and give back to the community. Involvement has always been a big part of me. I am part of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). I’m part of the Police Explorers and Camp College. My involvement in these programs is for my own benefit, to help determine what path to take for my own future.
Not only am I involved in the extracurriculares I mentioned, but I also play sports. I played basketball and volleyball in middle school and I’ve played soccer for the past 4 years. Being able to be occupied motivates me to keep getting better at what I set my mind to. I know for a fact that no matter what I do, I will put in my one hundred percent effort and reach my goal.
To conclude my blog entry, I am the oldest out of three brothers. I have a fifteen year old brother who recently moved out of the house to proceed with his soccer career. He plays for the Colorado Rapids Academy. He was willing to to move in with another family to pursue his dream. I have two ten year old twin brothers that look up to me and my other brother, and we’ll make sure to set them on the right path. Both of my parents were born in Honduras. They came seeking for the American Dream at a very young age. They’ve always wished for a better life for us, and I’m thankful to them for always putting us first. The least I can do is to make them proud. My parents have always desired to travel around the world. Unfortunately, they aren’t able to, but I’m accomplishing one of their dreams for them.
